Ways to Give

Gift of Time

The Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County Foundation (the Foundation) volunteers provide time and invaluable assistance to numerous children.  Thousands of hours are donated annually by volunteers who give unselfishly of their time and talents to help children.  These volunteers also raise significant funds to offset the cost of children’s services.

Gift of Money

Charitable gifts help the Foundation meet our current goals and reach even farther in the future.  By giving wisely, you can achieve the same outcome, too.
Your gift can take multiple forms and can help you address a variety of personal financial goals.  Do you want to make a significant gift during your lifetime, or would a gift as part of your estate work better?  Do you have a particular asset that you are thinking of donating?
Click here to see what options would work best in your particular situation.

Bequest
Bequests are the most common form of a planned gift.  Simple wording in a will or trust adds a charitable estate.  The value of the gift at death serves to reduce estate taxes. (Click here to download a fill-in bequest form)

Life Insurance
A donor designates a charity as beneficiary of his or her life insurance policy.  A donor may also transfer ownership of a policy to the Foundation.  If the charity also owns the policy, any future premiums you pay for the policy are tax deductible.

Life Estate
As with gifts of appreciated securities, real estate that has increased in value can be an excellent “tax-wise” way to make a gift to the Foundation.  It may allow you to claim a charitable tax deduction as well as avoid any capital gains tax liability.
One way to make a gift of real estate is to give it outright to the Foundation.  Another way is to arrange to remain in your home and agree to have it come to the Foundation at the end of your life, or upon the death of your spouse or children.  This is called a Life Estate Agreement.
With a Life Estate Agreement, you, your spouse, and your children may retain the right to use the property for the rest of your lives, and it will ultimately be given to the Foundation.  You and/or your family will be responsible for paying taxes, insurance, and other maintenance expenses during your lives until the property transfers to the Foundation.  You would receive a charitable deduction in the year that the contribution is made and that asset would be effectively removed from your probate estate.
Gifts of real estate can be more complex than other gifts, and there are many factors to consider.  Please contact us if you are considering a gift of real estate, and we will be glad to discuss it with you personally.

Retirement Accounts
The balance remaining in your retirement account after your death is subject to double taxation if it passes to your heirs:  It is taxed both as income and as an estate asset.  The result, over 75% of the account value may go to taxes.  It is a better plan to designate the remainder of your account to the Foundation, and then use other assets for gifts to your family.  New regulations simplify the procedure to name the Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County Foundation as beneficiary.  We are ready to assist you with making such a designation.

The Giving Society (name the Foundation as a beneficiary)
The Giving Society of Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County Foundation is a way for the club to recognize those individuals who have provided for its financial future through their estate plan or by establishing a permanent endowed fund.
If you have provided for the Foundation in your estate plan but have not informed us, we encourage you to do so.  We would be pleased to welcome you into the Giving Society of Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County Foundation!  This is the Foundation’s way of showing appreciation to people who help secure its financial future.  Click here to provide us with the information to join the Giving Society.  All information given to us about your estate plan is kept strictly confidential
