The New Boys & Girls Club is Open!
A truly grand grand opening took place Sunday at the new Fernandina Beach Boys & Girls Club, the Roberts Learning & Achievement Center, on Lime Street.
A crowd of about 300 came to marvel at the spacious rooms where children can learn and grow, every day after school. Attendees were provided refreshments, courtesy of The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, and were entertained by music from the Nassau Community Band, directed by Amy Scott. Prominent among those on hand were Nassau County School Board members, city and county commissioners. <read more ...>

World-Class Director, World-Class PSA
You may have heard about our new public service announcement that is now in production. I don't know of another non-profit or for-profit that could have pulled this off. It was amazing -- and a true testament to the impact of our Clubs on our alumni and their deep gratitude for all the Club meant to them.
It all began with a call made by Denzel to Academy Award-winning director, Ron Howard. Denzel asked Ron, a long-time Club supporter, to produce a world class PSA for us and, without hesitation, Ron agreed.
Just two weeks ago, Ron and his partner/producer Brian Grazer filmed the new PSA featuring 20 prominent alumni -- national spokespeople Denzel Washington and Jennifer Lopez, plus Magic Johnson, Martin Sheen, Cuba Gooding Jr., Shaq and his mom Lucille O'Neal, Mario Lopez, Ashanti, Kerry Washington, Ne-Yo, General Wesley Clark, Courtney B. Vance, Sugar Ray Leonard, John Paul DeJoria, Smokey Robinson, Edward James Olmos, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Shaun White and Misty Copeland.
All graciously gave so much time and commitment to this project. Along with our National Youth of the Year Mona Dixon, I had the opportunity to attend the shoot, and to hear from these amazing alums firsthand. They reminisced with each other about their Club days, the fun they had and the mentors who dramatically influenced their life and their future. It was a true tribute to our mission, our Club staff and the power of Clubs to help create great futures.

The plan is to premiere the PSA at our Congressional Breakfast in September and seek high level placements nationally and locally. It will make you proud.
It was an amazing day, and Evan McElroy, Frank Sanchez and their team did an incredible job. Pulling this off was nothing short of a miracle.

Former President and CEO
