Boys & Girls Clubs Members Enjoy Special Golf Outing
FERNANDINA BEACH, FL (October 29, 2019) – To celebrate their achievements and the culmination of their golf lessons, Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau members were treated to a special golf outing at Gregor MacGregor’s Mini Links in downtown Fernandina Beach.
During the 5-session Swing to Open Doors program, Club members from both Miller Freedom Center and Roberts Learning & Achievement Center are taught the basics of golf from volunteers and learn everything from putting to golf etiquette. Thursday’s outing was a way for the kids and adults to let off some steam and have some fun on a slightly smaller scale.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau Foundation Board member and owner of Gregor MacGregor’s, Tim Poynter, said “I’m glad the kids and the volunteers who have been helping them learn the game of golf were able to come downtown for some well-deserved fun and games. It’s great that they were able to test out the new course and put the skills they’ve been practicing into action.”
The lessons learned during this program are skills they can also take with them off the golf course to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. “Our members get such great encouragement and mentorship from our knowledgeable volunteers. More than just physical skills on the course, they also get lessons in building character and sportsmanship,” said service director Samantha Daly.
Programs like Swing to Open Doors help Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau provide a Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters their doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.
