Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival Concert for Children at Miller Freedom Center
FERNANDINA BEACH, FL (October 30, 2019) – With support from the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, the children at Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau County were treated to a concert at the Miller Freedom Center on Friday, October 25.
The concert featured violinist and Atlanta Symphony concertmaster David Coucheron and his sister, pianist Julie Coucheron. Thanks to Ms. Coucheron’s wide range of styles and repertoire emerging from her highly trained classical background, the audience got to hear live versions of some of their favorite soundtracks from popular children’s movies.
Cellist Christopher Rex also provided some entertainment by playing classical pieces that represented animals and asked the audience to guess the animal. All were impressed by the children’s ability to quickly guess the bumblebee in Flight of the Bumblebee and a swan from Swan Lake. Mr. Rex was one of the founding members of the Georgian Chamber Players in Atlanta and the Christiania Trio with David and Julie.
Music education for concert audiences, students, and aspiring young musicians has been a core mission of the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival and that mission is showcased in events like this and its partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau offers Club members ages 6 to 18 a safe place after school and in the summers to learn, discover, and grow by providing them with opportunities to improve their academics, be engaged with positive role models, and develop into confident leaders.
